San Diego is known as “America’s Finest City” and what would America’s finest city be without fly fishing? Fifteen years ago, Peter Piconi realized he did not have to travel to the Sierra’s or the Rockies to find a great fishery – he could walk out his back door, to one of Southern California’s best kept secrets – salt water fly fishing.
200 days out of the year you’ll find Capt. Peter Piconi leading anglers to corbina, halibut, yellowfin, bass, bonefish, barracuda, bonito, yellowtail, white sea bass and dorado. His expertise and detailed knowledge of local fisheries has made him one of today’s pioneers of salt water fly fishing in southern California. He is nationally recognized as San Diego’s premier guide and the “go-to guy” for answers to every anglers fly fishing questions.
Peter is one of fly fishing’s most sought after experts and has been featured on the MIGHTY 1090AM “Let’s Talk Hook Up”, OLN’s “Reel Outdoors”, and spotlighted in fly fishing instructional video’s. Piconi is also an accomplished photographer and journalist. Publications include: Salt Water Fly Fishing and South West Fly Fishing.
Along with guiding trips on San Diego Bay, Captain Piconi instructs casting clinics, fly tying classes, surf schools, and leads trips to British Columbia, South America, Baja, Alaska, Utah, Wyoming, Montana and anywhere else fish are biting.
Peter is a graduate of Humboldt State University, where he earned his degree in Wildlife Management. He has worked as biologist in California, Idaho and Alaska.
